    Did the actual piano part do that bossa nova thing or was it the guitar part? It seems like you were trying to get that classical guitar feel on it.

    the issue with excessively slow practice is that its benefits are both unproven and conceptually iffy. for once motor skills are not easily scalable. the brain conceptualizes movement at different velocities in completely different ways. it is easy to imagine and execute a fluid movement of your hand from one position to another at relatively fast speeds. but doing the same slowly it is almost impossible to maintain fluid movement. The brain does not work like a CNC. You cant tell it to move your hand from A to B at any given speed. The next issue is the non-linear nature of movement. you dont simply move a finger or hand from A to B. There are acceleration and deceleration phases. slowing down any movement changes that movement. because you dont have the necessary control over the way your muscles actuate. lastly the very muscle actuation itself is non-linear. muscles are complex biological machines. so even if you could conceptually conjure the correct and precise mental image and get your brain to out out the correct signals your muscle reaction would still ne different. So in summation: by practicing too slow you fail meaningful muscle memory. you actually create mental images and concepts and habits that do not apply to fast playing. There are of course benefits to practicing slow. Errorless training is one beneficial concept. To create a mental image of a „perfect“ execution. Another is giving yourself the time to properly think through all the minutiae of that passage. But beyond a certain point there is no evidence to suggest it actually helps. And it is hard to even imagine what the benefits would be. Generally speaking a lot of advice and „good practice“ methods circulating lack any kind of conceptual groundwork and proof. they are simply passed on based on intuition and anecdotal evidence. Your teacher might tell you that they did it and now look at how good they are. But the reality is that said teacher also has simply spent many more hours practicing. You might just as well ask an millionaire how they became a millionaire. When in reality getting lucky is probably the biggest part of it. There simply is a huge survivorship bias.

    What are your thoughts on a dress rehearsal if you have less students? I would only need to book an extra night a couple weeks prior to the actual recital so that my young students can feel more at ease with playing in a different location and on a different piano.

    • @RhapsodyPianoStudio
      @RhapsodyPianoStudio Месяц назад

      Dress rehearsals are great if you have the time to organize them. Ideally, you could complement them with weekly or biweekly “piano forums” where students could come in and play for each other
